EVENT ESSENTIALS: New Introductory Course In Event Management

The Event Essentials

As part of a continuous improvement program Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) has created an introductory course for entry-level candidates who are seeking to upskill and understand the event industry or build a foundation of understanding and skills. 

The Event Essentials Program can be used as an entry point into the meetings and events industry. It is the perfect course for someone who has no formal qualification or experience in events who is responsible for organising events for their company.

The course is accessed online and has support from the MEA’s training faculty with contextualised assessments that relate back to industry case studies. This blended learning allows candidates to commence their professional development pathway without interrupting their workplace commitments while still studying in a supportive learning environment.

Event Essentials is an accredited course allowing candidates to finish with certificates of attainment for two nationally recognised units of competency that can be applied to many other VET programs, including the SIT50316 Diploma of Event Management. 


Meetings & Events Australia

The two units included in this course are: 

SITEEVT001 Source and Use Information in the Events Industry This unit is an excellent starting point and foundation of knowledge for anyone starting out in the events career. It covers the basic structure of the events industry, different types of events and service providers. The unit also introduces the key concepts of risk and compliance, covering the basics of event related laws, regulations and working with councils and government bodies. The introduction to events technology includes registration platforms, Apps and the growing use of social media in the event space. 

SITEEVT005 Plan in-house events or functions This unit views events from the perspective of the event venue however provides all event industry entrants with the understanding of the operational side of planning an event. Everything from room setups, floor plans and run sheets are covered with the major project focusing on both a two-day conference and gala dinner to provide broad exposure to different event requirements.
