Ovolo Hotels Invests in Canberra

Ovolo is continuing to make its mark on the Capital with further investment of approximately $5 million, today announcing pillars of evolution of Ovolo Nishi (formally Hotel-Hotel) to take place at the designer hotel - with the local Canberran in mind.

The evolution of the hotel includes a revitalisation of the nationally renowned Monster Bar + Kitchen under the helm of Executive Chef Daniel Flatt and the development of 17 x new rooms by Luchetti Krelle; all in-line with the existing cultural aesthetic and high-end vision of the design-driven hotel collective.

“Ovolo is committed to evolving this iconic hotel & restaurant in-line with it's original vision and aesthetic. We are excited to be investing further in Canberra” said Ovolo Hotels CFO and COO Australia Dave Baswal.

Each Ovolo is inspired by local surrounds, culture and heritage. No matter which city you stay in, each sleep over will feel like a new experience with its own unique personality and style, no two Ovolo Hotels are the same. 

The vision for Canberra is a space to be spontaneous, creative and standout from the crowd and with a cultural, art, music, fashion and entrepreneurial ethos the changing of the guard promises a strong focus on community. ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr has welcomed the arrival of the Ovolo brand in Canberra, “attracting a modern international brand to an iconic design hotel in Canberra will certainly aid the city in attracting more interstate and international tourists. This move shows that overseas investors are seeing serious potential in the Canberra market,” he says.

The evolution aligns with the hotel's instagrammable nature however has been designed with the guest and diners needs and comfort as first priority.

With the modern traveller in mindOvolo welcomes 17 new rooms, designed to extend on the current well-loved hotel and room aesthetic. There are 16 snug rooms, which take on the micro-hotel concept and one larger suite with a balcony.

“The new wing has a rustic feel with strong consideration for handcrafted detail,” interior designer and Principal of Luchetti Krelle, Rachel Luchetti says. “Largely, we have built on the stunning initial design, bringing in some influences from the existing rooms into the new spaces. Special finishes including the concrete rendering will be included in all new rooms.”

The new rooms provide an element of discovery, featuring a retro inspired, multi-purpose writing desk with mini bar enclosed. Additionally, an Indian woven string dual purpose day bed which uniquely doubles as a luggage rack will be a design feature of the rooms.

The evolution of Monster Kitchen and Bar will leave its mark on your taste buds. Daniel Flatt Executive Chef has been with Monster since the launch. He is keeping the original ethos of Monster with hearty share style dishes. Dan alongside renowned Chef, Ian Curley as creative food partner is bringing back some of the old favourites and revitalising the menu with modern Australian cuisine – with an Asian and Mediterranean influence. Dan's dishes focus on using quality seasonal ingredients - regionally and locally sourced from Canberra region and surrounds.

Encapsulating Ovolo's effortless living ethos the ground floor has been divided into two approachable entertaining areas. The Monster Lounge is where all the fun will start among a new defined high top-bar seating and lounge areas creating an inviting area to eat Monster Bar Food and bespoke drinks.

Monster Salon has undergone an extension and taken on a more ambient and relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will now be served surrounded by Murano glass, fireplace and views of Parliament House.
