Skills and interactivity the big focus in revolutionised Event Symposium program

With a full program of dynamic, tailored learning, the Australian Event Symposium in November offers a unique program catering to the entire Australian events industry.

The 2018 program is a significant departure from previous years with all sessions set to be extended, interactive Workshops and Masterclasses delivered by specialists from both within and outside of the events industry.

“The revolutionised format allows delegates to build and apply skills tailored exactly to their roles in events, because the sessions are two-way exchanges of ideas and needs,” says Event Symposium Managing Director Ian Steigrad.

“The Masterclasses are also shaping up to be extremely valuable opportunities to boost skills in the events industry. We are working closely with these iconic Australians to design the sessions as in-depth, event-specific learning opportunities that immediately resonate with event professionals. This kind of collaboration to cross-pollinate skills from beyond our industry is rare in my experience,” he adds.

The Symposium will see six Workshops on Day One delivered across two sessions by event industry experts on hot topics including risk, safety and security, project management, winning bids, pitches and sales, event reinvention, stakeholder management and sustainable marketing strategies.

Current industry pioneers will be running the Workshops, the likes of Alana Hay (Milestone Creative Australia), Jon Corbishley (The Safety Officer), and Hailey Mason (Sorted Events) and more imparting delegates with tangible skills. A handful of Event Awards judges are also leading Workshops, offering insight into the same high-level practice and expertise with which they select Australia’s best events and achievements.

On Day 2, three Masterclasses will be delivered by journalist and former Wallaby Peter FitzSimons, chef Matt Golinski and TEDx Sydney curator Fenella Kernebone.

Peter will share his secrets on the relationship between creativity and agility, while Matt delves into drawing on the resources you already possess to shape extraordinary events.  Fenella will teach from her expertise on listening and communicating, so events professionals can deliver messages that have an impact.

The Event Symposium will take place alongside the Australian Event Awards at the Novotel Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast on 19-21 November.
