10 Ways To Improve Your Google Searches

If you are not using Google Search Operators, you are wasting time scanning too many search results or missing opportunities.

Search Operators are characters or words that narrow down your search query to get more specific results. For example, a favourite of mine – NOT.  Example looking for events NOT concerts. You could also do the opposite to save yourself a second search by using AND. Here you could put galaxy 6 AND 7 if you wanted to find out more about both models.

Here is a quick list of other Google search operators that you might find handy.

  1. Find a price - Put in front of a number. For example: camera $400.
  2. Exclude words from your search - put - in front of a word you want to leave out. For example, jaguar speed-car
  3. Find for an exact match - Put a word or phrase inside quotes. For example, "tallest building".
  4. Search for wildcards or unknown words - Put a * in your word or phrase where you want to leave a placeholder. For example, "largest * in the world".
  5. Search within a range of numbers - Put .. between two numbers. For example, camera $50..$100.
  6. Combine searches - put "OR" between each search query. For  example, marathon OR race.
  7. Search for a specific site -  put "site:" in front of a site or domain. For example, site:youtube.com or site:.gov.
  8. Search for related sites - put "related:" in front of a web address you already know. For example, related:time.com.
