Business Events Industry welcomes new Ministry

Further recognition of the importance of the business events industry to the Australian economy is set to be one of the many benefits of the new federal ministry.

The Association of Australian Convention Bureaux (AACB) said the formal acknowledgement of tourism alongside trade and investment responsibilities is a welcome move.

“The business events industry congratulates the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Hon Steven Ciobo MP, on his reappointment,” said AACB Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Hiebl.

“Minister Ciobo has consistently demonstrated he is one of the leading advocates for our sector in Australia and around the world, which is tremendous, and we look forward to this continuing.

“The AACB also congratulates Hon Keith Pitt MP on his appointment as Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.

“The appointment of Hon Greg Hunt MP as the new Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science is also welcomed by the business events industry.

“Through his previous public comments about the successful outcomes of hosting 6000 delegates at the International Union for Conservation of Nature World Parks Congress in Sydney, Minister Hunt has demonstrated his intimate knowledge of our sector.

“The AACB will work with the new ministry to help ensure similar international business events are attracted to Australia. We will continue to promote our positive policies as we did in the lead up to the election and look forward to seeing their implementation during this term of a re-elected Coalition Government.

“Expenditure by delegates from overseas attending business events in Australia generates more than $2.2 billion in gross domestic product and 22,500 jobs on an annual basis.”
