Recruitment Tip

Professional You 2.0

Ben CarnegieWhen was the last time you took a step back from your day to day activities and took a look at your own bigger picture?

It's far too easy to get into the daily grind and quickly find that days have turned in to weeks and then months and you look up and find yourself saying to your colleagues "I can't believe it's Christmas already!"

Did you achieve what you set out to do in 2014 or has another year gone by and you feel that you are still in the same place you were 12 months ago?

With so many of us taking time off as the year draws to a close, the clarity you get when you have removed yourself from the usual work routine is staggering. The things that are most important to you become more evident and it's only natural that you start to question if the way you currently do things is the best way for you.

How you proceed from here is crucial to reaching those goals or achieving those dreams. Will you simply reflect, then head back to the office in the first week of January and get back into the same old routine, allowing your thoughts of change to be quickly diluted by the hum of the day to day? Or will you take action on what your heart has shown you?

If you could look at the next 12 months of your life and be comfortable and feel satisfied with what you may achieve leaving things as they are, then you are in a good place. If by looking at the next 12 months you are left wanting, then only you can get the wheels of change in motion.

Start a list of what you'd like to achieve, no matter how big or small the achievement. Some things on your list you may be easier to action and others may be considerably larger and more complex and seem overwhelming. These are the achievements you will need to break down into smaller, more manageable tasks that you chip away at in order to achieve these larger or long term goals. You can then assign yourself a daily or weekly task to get you closer to achieving what you truly desire.

12 months from now when you look back at how much you have been able to get done you can evaluate if you have gotten closer to your dreams or if things need to be tweaked for the following year.

Although this is quite a general way to look at self- improvement, this can be applied to both your professional and personal life.
