Lord Mayor adds his voice to a choir of 1300 descending on Brisbane for Pan Pacific Barbershop Convention.

Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre will echo to the sounds of more than one thousand voices this September when it hosts the Pan Pacific Barbershop Convention.
The event will bring together barbershop choruses from around the globe, with singers from New Zealand, Japan, Hawaii, USA and Australia performing and competing from 28 September - 2 October 2011.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the convention will provide a fantastic opportunity to showcase what Brisbane has to offer to the international entertainment community.
"Brisbane is becoming the meeting place for dynamic and diverse groups from around the globe and this is a great example of the best in their field choosing Australia's new world city for their annual event," he said.
Registrations for the convention are now open and the public is invited to attend performances at the competition sessions throughout the five-day convention.
The event will culminate with the River Harmony Concert of Champions on Saturday October 1, showcasing some of the most talented male chorus and quartet singers from around the world including current international champions Storm Front.
Brisbane Marketing Convention Bureau Director Annabel Sullivan said delegates attending the event would have the chance to explore Brisbane at its best.
"Delegates will experience Brisbane's superb September climate and first class event facilities, and in return Brisbane residents can enjoy some of the best quartets and choruses in the world," Ms Sullivan said.
Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre General Manager Robert O'Keeffe said the Centre was delighted to be hosting the convention for the second time.
"We are delighted to welcome back these very accomplished groups of international barbershop singers and to share with Brisbane their remarkable musical talents," he said.
"Brisbane enjoys an excellent reputation for a broad appreciation of musical arts and the hosting of the Pan Pacific Barbershop Convention in what is the city's creative and cultural precinct demonstrates Brisbane's unique positioning and attraction for such world class entertainment events."
The Pan Pacific Barbershop Convention is expected to attract approximately1300 delegates from around the world, delivering $3.8 million worth of economic value to the city.
