Our response to COVID-19 and plan for Event Awards & Symposium 2020

Released by Australian Event Awards and Symposium on Wednesday, 22 April 2020

There will be Winners, Finalists and Trophies! The Australian Event Awards will proceed in 2020.

After extensive consultation with our Judges, Partners, past entrants and wider members of our industry, we have decided that the Australian Event Awards will continue in 2020.

We have received a considerable amount of feedback that supports the recognition of our achievements as an industry over the past year and believes it will keep a positive momentum moving through the community during this difficult period. It is in this spirit that we will be delivering the Australian Event Awards 2020.

Our aim is to host an awards night to celebrate all events and achievements that have taken place between the 1st of July 2019 and 30th of June 2020. If possible, the Australian Event Awards 2020 will be staged in Adelaide at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on the 21st of October. We really hope we will be able to do this, and we are excited to bring the Awards to Adelaide, if we can.

However, given the current climate, we cannot be certain that an awards night, as usual, will be possible. In the case that it isn’t, we will recognise the achievements of our industry and community by offering an online celebration of our winners. No matter the circumstances, we are absolutely certain that Winners will be announced and trophies will be given away.

Entries will open on 29th of April to all events and achievements that have taken place between 1 July 2019 – 30 June 2020. This includes those events and achievements that have had to adapt due to the COVID-19 restrictions. For the first time, events delivered online will be eligible to enter the Event Awards.

We have made multiple key changes to the Awards 2020 following feedback from the industry and to support our industry where we can. We have created a guided entry form to help you best address the things that the judges want to see in your entry, simplified the entry process and reduced entry costs for businesses across the industry. We have also improved the judging process by appointing leading experts in public events, corporate events, event services and event management to lead the judges through the judging process and review the finalists. These revisions will make the Event Awards easier than ever to enter, but you have to put your best foot forward – it’s still hard to win!

Planning of the Australian Event Symposium 2020 is underway. Taking onboard your feedback from last year, we are working on a programme of sessions to address the areas of our industry you’ve told us you want to learn more about. If we can, the Symposium will be staged on 20 – 21 October at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Adelaide. If we’re still subject to COVID-19 restrictions, we will deliver a programme to you online. Further information about the Symposium will be released in the coming weeks. If you’d like to get involved, please get in touch with us.

We appreciate your ongoing support & understanding and we look forward to conversing with many of you during the Event Awards process this year.
